Refurbishment of a villa in Tannay

Transformation and extension of a traditional villa Vaudoise.

Bureau b29 has been commissioned to requalify this turn-of-the-century villa Vaudoise.  At the time the building was composed of two distinct levels, and a master suite on the upper part. The intervention consisted in seeking coherence between the different wings of the building. The work also required the complete rebuilding of the existing roof, and the addition of photovoltaic panels. The building also required a complete resumption of its technique and drainage.

The typology of the villa was thought as a set of sequence shots. We have split the spaces by cancelling the notion of served space and serving space. We marked the transitions between each room by adding expressive materiality (woodwork, coloured paint, or fabric covering). The exercise involved relocating the kitchen to an extension and creating a new workshop. The principle of the different sequence shots corresponds to a dynamic, almost cinematographic approach to space. We wished to highlight each room, and also to allow the independence of the programmatic elements in relation to each other. Thus it is possible to close an area to isolate it from the rest of the rooms, or to make a geometry of the place totally open for the visitor, inviting him to pass through the different rooms in a totally free way. The variety of possible scenarios gives a multitude of possible uses and functions. The search for this flexibility was carried out by means of different plan studies throughout the project phase.

The project work was developed as a team effort, bringing together architect, interior designer and designer in the b29 office. We chose the furniture together with our client. For this project, we also produced custom-made furniture such as entrance chests of drawers, bed chests, and fireplace seats. The aim was to create an overall concept that would be completely coherent. This is what our customers ask us, and it is the requirement that we have set ourselves through these 3 years of work on the complete transformation of this place.
